Family founders
Jan Mullerije, son of Hendrick Mullerije (or ter Braeck) and Diele Bilderbeek are the founders of the Nijland family. In, or about 1680, they moved in in the small farm called Nijland in the Marke Zwiep and Bosheurne. Traces of Jan Nijland, as he was called after moving in the farm, can be found in the Markebook: on Juli 19, 1707 there was written that Jan Nijland already for 30 years, was illegally using the common Marke grounds. By paying 100 Car. guilders he was granted the eternal and inheritable right of using the Marke grounds.
Origin and spreading
There is more than one Nijland family. The Nijland's described on this website, are originating from the Bosheurne, an area in between the villages Ruurlo, Barchem and Borculo in the Achterhoek in the Netherlands.

Every red pixel on the right map indicates a birth place of a Nijland descendant. Not only descendants from male Nijland's are shown, but also from female Nijland's.

Not on the map: descendants born in Germany, on the Dutch Antilles, or in Brasil. Also not on the map: Nijland children adopted from Ethiopia and Korea. All descendants are mentioned in the adescendants overview.

A little bit speculative...
is the composition of the 2nd generation in the descendants overview. It is certain that the name of father of the founder of the Nijland family, was Hendrick Mullerije (I.1). That his name was probably first Ter Braeck was deduced from the presence of Ter Braeck witnesses at the baptising of the children of Jan Nijland (II.10) and Diele Bilderbeek. Also the first name of the the father of the Ter Braeck witnesses is Hendrick.
Historical maps
On the Bosheurne Historical Maps overview you can find, besides the map above, also maps from 1890 and 1832.

A part of the Nijland family descends from Jan Nijland (born March 23rd 1793 in Bosheurne) and Geertruida Rot (born December 19th 1796 in Neede). Jan and Geertruida bought the De Schutte farm, located between Borculo and Geesteren, in 1848. On the picture the De Schutte-farm in the year 2000, since the diversion of the river Berkel (1966-1968) not inhabitated any more by Nijland-decendants. De Schutte farm, Borculo
